TAO's Road Rally

Despite the chilly 50º weather, 63 happy
participants gathered in a parking lot in Plantation, huddled together, laughing
and ready to roll! As the teams assembled, we were given our instructions:
follow the clues and note the mileage each at each stop. The team to complete
the whole route in the least number of miles would be the winner. I am happy to
report that that no one got lost, and all the teams arrived in great good
spirits at our final destination, "The Big Bear Brewery" in Coral Springs.
The Road Rally committee is to be commended for the outstanding job they did.
From the marketing to the 37" HD/LED TV we raffled (won by non-member Randee
Lefkow) to the creation of the route and the fun clues they provided, co-chairs
Lowell Gannon and Rhonda Hey and committee members Les Berger, Lynn Berger,
Patti Halprin and Karen Rosenberg did a beyond-awesome job with this event. We
can not say thank you enough! (Seriously.)
And kudos to the management of Big Bear Brewery (Zeva) for
being so considerate of our kashrut food requirements (she left the lard out of
the pizza dough for us!) She also cut a fabulous deal for us, leaving more money
to go directly to TAO. And... most importantly, the food was imaginative, fresh
and well-prepared. If you are looking for a great dinner out, consider going
there (address is below.) Thanks also to 24 hour Fitness for
donating one week workout coupons for all participants.
To everyone who participated, thank you for being great sports. Whether you
picked up all the 'receipts' at each stop, or even got all of the instructions,
it didn't matter! There were great stories to tell, laughter and comeraderie.
The first place trophy was won by the Horowitz/Tobier/(Richard) Hey team with
the route completed in 40 miles. The second place trophy went to the Goldberg/Kander/Heaton/Rick
& Betty team which finished at 41 miles... a difference of just one mile!
