Yael Kanarek will discuss the V’Tikra portion as it is read and understood through Toratah, the Regendered Bible.
Yael Kanarek has been a practicing visual artist and jewelry designer working across various media for 30 years, and earned her MFA in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY. In her work, she explores the role of language and narrative in forming a worldview. In 2016, after a decade of Kabbalah studies in the tradition of Baal Hasulam, and in response to the stunning void of canonical literature that codifies women’s experiences in the sacred, she began rewriting the Torah by reversing the genders of all characters. In 2019, Tamar Biala joined the initiative, and in 2020, they started Beit Toratah along with Rabbi Mira Rivera and Rabbi Emily Cohen.
