Shabbat Zachor occurs on the Shabbat preceding Purim. Its special Maftir reading contains the command, “Remember what Amalek did to you on your way out of Egypt.”

God singles out Bezalel and Oholiab, having endowed them with divine skill, to craft all that God has commanded for the Tabernacle and its furnishings.
It is the creative person who steps aside from himself or herself and lets God through, who manifests otherworldly creations, celestial music, and spirit-filled stories. Even an ordinary person can accomplish extraordinary things when he or she steps aside and lets God in. (Glory, p. 241)

Aaron gathers up all their gold, and makes for them a god, a golden calf. The next day, they offer sacrifices, eat, drink, and dance.
It is counter-productive to your growth and possibilities to try to hold on to certainty and contain your God image as anything less than infinite. Even in certainty, there needs to be room for dynamism. (Wisdom, p. 81)

Moses comes down from the mountain, sees the golden calf and the dancing, shatters the tablets of the covenant, and calls to him all those who follow God.
In a world of infinite choices and clamoring chaos, filled with confused people of low self-esteem, it is understandably difficult for people to make choices about what their image of God needs to be. It is easier to perpetuate a limited God image that is familiar than to risk the unknown. It is time to empower yourself with an image of God that is relevant to your life – a God image that gives your life quality, purpose, and joyful meaning. (Understanding, p. 98)
