A Hebrew mother, Jocheved, places her baby son in a basket of reeds, and sets him afloat in the river to save him.  He comes to the daughter of Pharoah, and is called “Moses,” because he is drawn from the water.

Miracles are happening all the time.  To see the unexpected you need to be wise enough to perceive it and reasonable enough to understand that the unexpected really does occur.  An overdependence on either wisdom or reason diminishes the wonders that exist in each.  (Understanding, p. 103)

Moses grows up as a prince of Egypt.  He flees Egypt after he kills an Egyptian who has slain a Hebrew.  Moses dwells in the land of Midian, where he marries Tzipporah and tends sheep.

Define new boundaries to accommodate new experiences.  Things in your life that may have seemed separate and disjointed are now perceived as only temporary images of reality.  They are stepping-stones to enter a larger story of who you are, parts of a puzzle that fit together into a greater whole.  (Understanding, p. 93)
